Dr. J. Vernon McGee  

Born: 1904   Died: 1988

Born John Vernon McGee on June 17, 1904 in Hillsboro Texas,   Dr. McGee recieved his Th.M and Th.D from Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas.   He was ordained a Presbyterian minister and pastored a series of Presbytrian Churches until   he and his wife moved   to Los Angeles, California and ministered at   The Church of The Open Door from 1949 to 1970.   Dr. McGee began teaching the Thru the Bible radio program in 1967.   J Vernon McGee went on to be with the Lord on December 1, 1988.

  Dr. Oliver B. Greene  

Born: 1915   Died: 1976

Born Oliver Boyce Greene on Febuary 14, 1915 in Greenville South Carolina, Dr. Greene was saved at age 20 at a revival.   Oliver surrendered to the call to preach 5 months later.   In 1939 Dr. Greene began conducting tent revivals across America for 35 years.   He also founded the Gospel Hour, Inc. in 1956 as a Christian outreach using radio, personal appearances, books and audio tapes.   His radio program is currently heard on more than 80 stations across the U.S.   Oliver B. Greene went on to be with the Lord on July 26, 1976.

 

HarryIronside 

 Mr. Harry Ironside 

Born:  1876  Died:  1951

Born Henry Allen Ironside on October 14, 1876 in Toronto Canada, Mr. Ironside's family moved to Los Angeles in 1886.  After coming to the realization of his need for salvation and an evening of prayer Mr. Ironside was saved at the age of 13. At the age of 16 Mr. Ironside went into the full time ministry with the Salvation Army.  In 1929 he was called to the pastorate at Moody Bible Church in Chicago and was a frequent lecturer at Dallas Theological Seminary.  Mr. Ironside went on to be with the Lord on January 15, 1951. 

 

 

 

RATorrey 

Dr.  R.A. Torrey 

Born:  1859  Died:  1928

Born Rueben Archer Torrey on January 28, 1856 in Hoboken, New Jersey,  Dr. Torrey felt the working of the Holy Spirit but refused to yield for fear of being called to preach.  Then, one evening while at Yale, so moved with distraction and the thought of suicide Torrey exclaimed, "Oh, God, deliver me from this burden. I'll even preach!"  He returned to bed with peace and a call to preach the gospel.  Dr. Torrey joined D.L. Moody in his evangelistic ministy in Chicago in 1889.  During his ministry he also pastored the Moody Church and the Church of the Open Door.  Dr. Torrey went on to be with the Lord on October 26, 1928.

AWPink 

Mr. A. W. Pink 

Born: 1886  Died: 1952

Born Arthur Walkington Pink on April 1, 1886 in Nottingham, England Arthur was saved in his early 20's.  He immigrated to the United States shortly after he was saved to attend the Moody Bible Institute but stayed for only a short while.  Mr. Pink then pastored several churches and in 1922 established the monthy magazine Studies in Scriptures. In a time when Puritan and reformed thought was largely dismissed Mr. Pink continued to preach the Sovereignty of God.  Mr. Pink went on to be with the Lord on July 15, 1952.

Dr. Lewis Sperry Chafer 

Born: 1871  Died: 1952

Born Lewis Sperry Chafer on Febuary 27, 1871 in Rock Creek, Ohio Dr. Chafer was ordained by the Congregaional Church in 1900.  He then came under the influenc of C.I. Scofield and his approach to Bible interpretation.  After Scofield passed away Dr. Chafer moved to Dallas, Texas to pastor the First Congreational Church of Dallas where Scofield had ministered.  Mr. Chafer then founded the Dallas Theological Seminary in 1924.  Dr. Chafer went on to be with the Lord on August 22, 1952.

 Dr. John R. Rice 

Born: 1895  Died: 1980

Born John Richard Rice on December 11, 1895 in Cooke County, Texas, Dr. Rice was saved at age 12.  He attended Dallas Baptist University, Baylor University and the finally the University of Chicago while volunteering for the Pacific Garden Mission.  In 1934 he founded the Sword of the Lord and went into full time evangelism in 1940.  Dr. Rice took a stand for the fundamental truths ot the Word of God while never losing his loving spirit.  Dr. Rice went on to be with the Lord on December 29, 1980.

 

 

 

 

BobJones 

Dr. Bob Jones Sr. 

Born: 1883  Died: 1968

Born Robert Reynolds Jones on October 30, 1883 in Dale County Alabama, Dr. Jones was saved at age 11.  He was licensed as a circuit preacher by the Methodist at age 15 and attended Mallalieu Seminary and Southern College.  He founded Bob Jones College in Lynn Haven Florida in 1927, moved it to Cleveland Tennessee in 1933 and finally to it's present location in Greenville, South Carolina  changing it's name to Bob Jones University.  Dr. Jones was especially known for his warm, plain and practical manner of speach.  Dr. Jones went on to be with the Lord on January 16, 1968.

JNDarby

 John Darby 

Born: 1800  Died: 1882

Born John Nelson Darby on November 18, 1800 in Wesminster, London. John Darby attended Trinity College in Dublin and graduated Classical Gold Medallist.  Darby Originally had plans to become a lawyer put after a pesonal spiritual struggle he abandoned the profession for a religious vocation. Darby was ordained a priest with the Church of  Ireland in 1826 but after falling from a horse in 1827 he began to see differences between the Old Testament Kingdom and the Church.  He officially split with the Church of Ireland and identified with the Plymoth Brethern in 1832.  Darby was the original "fighting fundamentalist" and the father of modern dispensational thought.  Mr. Darby went on to be with the Lord on April 29, 1882.

Dr.C. I. Scofield 

Born: 1843  Died: 1921

Born Cyrus Ingerson Scofield on August 19, 1843 in Lenawee County, Michigan Dr. Scofield was saved in 1879.  Scofield was ordained a Congregational Minister and called to pastor the First Congregational Church, Dallas Texas in 1883.  Dr. Scofield founded the Central American Mission in 1890 and was called to pastor the Trinitarian Congrgational Church in 1895.  In 1909 the Scofield Reference Bible was published and in 1914 he founded the Philadelphia Biblical School of the Bible.  Dr. Scofield went on to be with the Lord on July 24, 1921.

Mr. D. L. Moody 

Born: 1837  Died: 1899

Born Dwight Lyman Moody on Febuary 5, 1837 in Northfield Massachusetts and saved in April of 1855.  In September of 1856, Moody moved to Chicago, Illinois and became involved in Sunday School work building an attendance of some 1,500.  In 1863 Moody founded the Illinois Street Church out of his Sunday School endeavors.  In 1886 Moody also founded the Moody Bible Institute and in 1894 founded Moody Publishers.  It was said of Moody by a contemporary, "If the Lord can ever use such an instrument as that for his glory and honor, it will astonish me."  The life of Moody was proof that God uses those who make themselves available.  D. L. Moody went on to be with the Lord on December 22, 1899.    

 

Spurgeon

Mr. C. H. Spurgeon 

Born:  1834  Died:  1892

Born Charles Haddon Spurgeon in Essex England on June 19, 1834 Spurgeon was saved in January of 1850.  Just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon accepted the pastorate at the New Park Street Chapel and began publishing sermons in the New Park Street Pulpit  the following year.  The congregation  moved to the Metropolitan Tabernacle in 1861 and Spurgeon founded  the Stockwell Orphanage in 1867.  Spurgeon often preached to crowds of 10,000 before modern applification and is still known as the "Prince of Preachers."  Spurgeon went to be with the Lord on    January 31, 1892.

Mr. Hudson Taylor

Born: 1832  Died: 1905

Born James Hudson Taylor on May 21, 1832 in Barnsley England, Taylor was saved in 1849 and began his missionary work to China in 1854.  In 1865 Taylor founded the China Inland Mission which established 20 mission stations, brought over 800 missionaries to the Chinese mission field and trained some 700 Chinese personal workers.  By 1905, Talyor made his 11th and last missionary trip to China.  Hudson Taylor went on to be with the Lord on June 3, 1905.

 

 

SamJones

Mr. Sam Jones

Born: 1846  Died: 1906

Born Samuel Porter Jones on October 16, 1846 Sam Jones made a profession of faith shortly after vowing to his father, who was on his deathbed, that he would never drink again.  Mr. Jones joined the ministry and became one of the most well known evangelists of his time preaching some 1,000 sermons to approximately 3 million people in one year.  Mr. Jones emphasized plain spokeness and preached hard against the evil of drunkeness.  Mr. Jones went on to be with the Lord on October 15, 1906.

Mr. Robert M'Cheyene

Born: 1813  Died: 1843

Born Robert Murray M'Cheyene on May 21, 1813 in Edinburgh Scotland, M'Cheyene's conversion possibly occured after his brother's death in 1831 and led to a great spiritual awakening in his life.  M'Cheyene entered Divinity Hall in the latter part of 1831, was licensed by Annan Presbytery in 1835 and was ordained to St. Peter's Church in 1836.  M'Cheyene's impact on the world around him was through his devotional life.  His typical day consisted of rising at 6:30 A.M. and praying or meditating for 2 hours and on Sundays he would spend some 6 hours in prayer and devotional reading.  M'Cheyene went on to be with the Lord on March 25, 1843.

Dr. John Gill

Born: 1697  Died: 1771

Born John Gill on October 14, 1771 in Kettering Northamptonshire, Gill made his profession of faith at the age of 19.  He was called to pastor Strict Baptist Church in 1719 and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity by the University of Aberdeen in 1748.  Gill's literary works include, "The Doctine of the Trinity Stated and Vindicated,"  "An Exposition of the New Testament," "An Exposition of the Old Testament" and "The antiquity of the Hebrew Language." Dr. Gill went on to be with the Lord on October 14, 1771.  

 

 

 JCRyle

Mr. J. C. Ryle

Born: 1816  Died: 1900

Born John Charles Ryle on May 10, 1816, Ryle was educated at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford.  After being saved in 1837, Ryle was ordained by Bishop Sumner to the Curacy of Exbury.  He then served as the rector of St. Tomas's, Winchester, as the rector of Helmingam, Suffolk, as the vicar of Stradbroke and as the dean of Salisbury.  Ryle's literary works include, "Thoughts For Young Men," "A Call To Prayer," and "Expository Thoughts On The Gospels."  Ryle went on to be with the Lord on June 10, 1900.

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Born: 1899  Died: 1981

Born David Martyn Lloyd-Jones on December 20, 1899 in Cardiff,  Dr. Jones began to feel the call to the ministry at age 26.  He accepted a call to minister at Aberavon in 1927 and then accepted a call to co-pastor Westminster Chapel with G. Campbell Morgan in 1939 with Dr. Jones becoming the sole Pastor in 1943.  Dr. Jones took a hard stand against liberalism and his Friday night Bible Study was extremely popular with a study in Romans eventually being published in book form.  Dr. Jones went on to be with the Lord on March 1, 1981.

 G. Campbell Morgan

Born: 1863  Died: 1945

Born George Campbell Morgan on December 9, 1863 in Tetbury.  After a spritual awakening in which he refused to read any religous book except the Bible for seven years Mr. Morgan was ordained a minister of the Congregational Church in 1890.  In 1899 Morgan came to the U.S. and assumed the possesion of director of the Northfield Bible Conference.  He then returned to England in 1904 to take up the pastorate at Westminster Capel, left for the U.S. as an itinerant preacher in 1919 until 1933 when he returned to the Westminster Chapel pastorate.  Morgan's literary works include "Parables Of The Kingdom" and "An Exposition Of The Whole Bible."  Mr. Morgan went on to be with the Lord in 1945.

 

 ACDixon

A. C. Dixon

Born: 1854  Died: 1925

Born Amzi Clarence Dixon on July 6, 1854 in Shelby, North Carolina Dixon felt the call to preach young in his life.  Mr. Dixon graduated from Wake Forest College in 1875 and later studied at Baptist Theological Seminary.  Dixon was ordained in 1875 and pasored Immanuel Church in Baltimore, Hanson Place Church in Brooklyn, the Ruggles Street Church, Moody Church in Chicago, the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London and finally the University Baptist Church in Baltimore.  Mr. Dixon was a staunch fundametanlist, openly confronting sin, hypocricy and compromising.  Mr. Dixon went on to be with the Lord on June 14, 1925.
